Organ donation may not be an easy topic of conversation, but it could be one of the most important you’ll ever have – with the potential to positively impact the lives of several people.

Since the national program began in 2009, more than 16,700 people have received life-saving organ transplants from 5,904 deceased donors.

Why become a donor?

Around 1600 Australians are still currently waiting for a transplant. Another 12,000 are on dialysis and could benefit from a donated kidney.

Donation not only helps the person who receives the transplant but also their family and the relief it brings after a long wait.

Donation in Australia

While the majority of Australians support organ and tissue donation, only around one in three (36%) are registered to be a donor.

The national consent rate to donation is 54 percent with 454 people becoming organ donors.

How to register

Registering as an organ donor is simple. Visit donatelife.gov.au to register, then have that conversation with your loved ones.
